Outdoor Recreation
The Monocacy Canoe Club (MCC) - is the fastest growing paddling organization in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., area, and is also the club most steeped in tradition. Is this a paradox? We think not. The rock solid core of the club is its annual cruise schedule, currently featuring more than 100 river trips, canoe campers, out-of-state paddling weeks, dam-release weekends, family float trips and canoe sailing. MCC also offers classes in basic canoeing and kayaking, whitewater instruction, and river safety clinics.
Arts and Crafts
Appalachian Heritage Crafters is a new non-profit cooperative in my area of western North Carolina. They've recently opened a store just west of Murphy. If you're an artist, artisan, or crafter in any of the counties surrounding Cherokee County, North Carolina, check out their site and see about becoming a member.
Metalsmithing
John Dilbeck is a friend who makes great steel roses that never wilt. He also has a huge collection of links, including many for artists and crafters and for western North Carolina.
Musical Instruments
George Kelischek is a master violin maker who also makes other instruments, sells music supplies, and publishes music.
